Classic Soft Pretzels with Lye

These classic soft pretzels are made with a traditional lye solution for that authentic flavor and chewy texture.

Ingredients:

1 1/2 cups warm water
1 packet active dry yeast
1 tsp sugar
4 cups all-purpose flour
1/4 cup baking soda
2 tbsp food-grade lye
Coarse salt for sprinkling

Steps:

In a small bowl, combine the warm water, yeast, and sugar. Let it sit for 5 minutes until foamy.
In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour and yeast mixture. Knead until a smooth dough forms.
Cover the dough and let it rise for 1 hour until doubled in size.
Preheat the oven to 450°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
